SUMMARY:Cochrane webinar: How to do a rapid qualitative review
DESCRIPTION:This webinar\, part of the Cochrane Rapid Reviews & Learning Live webinar series\, focuses on rapid qualitative evidence synthesis (rQES)\, increasingly used to explore acceptability of interventions and barriers to implementation. Speeding up how we plan\, do and/or share the results of QES\, by simplifying or omitting review procedures\, can be particularly challenging given the iterative nature of synthesis methods and the interpretative nature of that synthesis and analysis. \nThis webinar rehearses important considerations when planning and conducting an rQES before outlining a variety of approaches used to tackle these challenges. The presenter\, Professor Andrew Booth\, brings together current thinking from the Rapid Reviews Group with insights drawn from over a decade as a current convenor of the Cochrane Qualitative and Implementation Methods Group. \nWednesday\, 28 February 2024\, 14:00 [Dublin time] SIGN UP HERE \nNote: You will need a Cochrane Account to register for this webinar. If you don’t have a Cochrane Account you will be able to register for free on the following page. You will be able to use this account for all future activity. A brief guidance on how to sign up using your Cochrane Account is available here and if you have any problems\, please contact support@cochrane.org \nPresenter: Professor Andrew Booth is Professor in Evidence Synthesis in the Sheffield Centre for Health and Related Research (SCHARR) at the University of Sheffield and an adjunct Professor at the University of Limerick. He is a co-convenor of the Cochrane Qualitative and Implementation Methods Group\, a member of the GRADE-CERQual core team and a research associate of Evidence Synthesis Ireland and Cochrane Ireland. Andrew is a Chartered Information Professional (UK CILIP). He obtained his PhD by Publications from the University of Sheffield (2013) and his MSc (1996) and Diploma in Librarianship with Distinction (1983) from the University of Wales (Aberystwyth)\, having previously gained a BA with First Class Honours from the University of Reading (1982). \nAndrew is a prolific trainer in synthesis methods and delivers regular short courses in qualitative evidence synthesis and rapid reviews. Since 2015 he has been the world’s most prolific author/co-author in the methodology and published examples of qualitative evidence synthesis and he is currently contributing multiple chapters to the forthcoming Cochrane-Campbell Handbook of Qualitative Evidence Synthesis. In 2020 he collaborated with Evidence Synthesis Ireland to provide methodological support to the first ever Cochrane Rapid Qualitative Evidence Synthesis. Together with colleagues at SCHARR he has co-authored the key text Systematic Approaches for a Successful Literature Review\, now in its 3rd edition.

SUMMARY:HSLG conference 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the HSLG conference 2024 to be held in the Ashling Hotel\, Dublin on 7 March 2024. \nThe theme is “Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?”. There’s always something that can potentially disrupt our professional work (remember search engines were meant to herald our doom?). We’ve managed to survive\, and often thrive\, in the face of adversity\, but can produce a better response when we work together and plan ahead. \nSharing our ideas and innovations at this conference is one way to become stronger. \nIn the library of “Howling Innovation\,” the big bad wolf of change is not to be feared but embraced — could it be a companion in the quest for knowledge\, a catalyst for evolution\, and a muse for the ever-changing melody of progress? Join Dr Lollie Mancey for an exploration of the changing landscape of libraries in an AI world\, questioning how we safeguard our core values and functions to ensure that libraries not only survive challenges but thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of information and technology. \nRegistration is now open

SUMMARY:LIBER 2024
DESCRIPTION:LIBER 2024 Annual Conference Theme: ‘State-of-the-art libraries in the service of science and society’. \nResearch libraries are dynamic entities that evolve rapidly within society\, research\, and academia\, in times when there is an urgency to solve critical global problems. While we often need time to reflect and assess what we have done\, we are challenged to respond to the demands of our communities and of global society. What kind of leadership should be exhibited within our organisations and beyond? What kind of synergies should be pursued to address the issues of a ‘post-truth’ world? What purpose do technological advancements bring\, and how can we adapt to them? \nFollowing the paths of openness and trust that we collectively trod at the LIBER 2023 Annual Conference in Budapest\, it is time to show how state of the art services\, spaces\, and collections are not just a state of mind\, but real implementations that respond to the great challenges in research and society of our time.

SUMMARY:Developing strategic foresight and quality reviews: insight from the HRB
DESCRIPTION:Information specialists at the Health Research Board will give an introduction to the concept of strategic foresight; and improving search strategy development and reporting for better evidence. \nAgenda \n10:00 am Welcome \n10:05 Managing uncertainty through strategic foresight \nStrategic foresight is an approach to planning and policymaking that attempts to manage uncertainty. It does that this by using a variety of tools to identify possible threats and opportunities in the medium or long-term. This is not prediction but an attempt to develop an information resource that helps with decision making in the present. Engaging in foresight work develops anticipatory capacity and enables a more active role in supporting policy making and mobilising joint action. \nBrian Galvin — manages the HRB National Drugs Library and is editor of Drugnet Ireland\, the HRB’s quarterly drugs research and policy bulletin. \n10:40 Improving search strategy development and reporting for better evidence \nThe IS team will discuss how you can improve your search strategy development and reporting\, ensuring your contribution to the review is to a high standard \n\nusing PRESS peer review of search strategies to improve your search strategy and choice of search resources\n\n\nusing available guidance for searching for systematic reviews\, scoping reviews and rapid reviews (Cochrane\, JBI etc)\n\n\nusing established quality assessment tools (AMSTAR\, JBI for Systematic Reviews) to guide search decisions\n\n\nusing reporting standards (PRISMA-S) to guide search decisions and reporting\n\nCoffee break 11:45 – 12:00 \n12:00 Guidance on terminology\, application\, and reporting of citation searching: using the TARCiS statement\, and tools that can help. \n12:45 A day in the life of – it’s not all systematic searches and PRISMA flow charts! \nThe IS team will give a short presentation on the scope of the role of information specialist in the HRB Evidence Centre. Information specialists typically work on a range of evidence products\, from inception to publication. \nWe work with a range of research teams and are responsible for the quality of the search strategy\, oversight and management of review management software\, and writing and presenting on search methods as part of the finished product. \nWhat is a typical day for us? Join us to find out what it looks like! \nAilish Farragher — Having joined the HRB Evidence Unit in 2020\, Ailish has welcomed the opportunity to support evidence-based policy through her work as an information specialist on systematic reviews and evidence briefs. Ailish has previously worked in a range of specialist libraries including the Department of Finance\, the RTÉ Television Library\, and spent twelve years as the legal information centre manager of a commercial law firm. \nLouise Farragher — is an information specialist with over 20 years’ experience in health libraries. She currently leads a team of information specialists in the HRB’s Evidence Centre\, providing specialist information support and expertise across the full range of evidence review and related evidence products. Louise has a particular interest harnessing machine learning and tools to improve review efficiency. \nCaítriona Lee — is an information specialist with the Evidence Centre of the Health Research Board\, working with the evidence team to research and produce systematic reviews for the Department of Health. Her professional background includes over ten years working as a reader services and reference librarian with one of Ireland’s children’s hospitals and several years working as a medical information specialist with Thomson Scientific. \n13:00 Light lunch/ networking \n13:30 Close
