Registration is open for HSLG Seminar – You can’t handle the truth: research integrity and truth in libraries

The HSLG Committee are delighted to announce an exciting line-up of speakers for our seminar, taking place on 13 February 2020 in the Ashling Hotel, Dublin, 9.45am to 4pm.

Invited speakers include:
Maura Hiney and Patricia Clarke who will speak about National Forum on Research Integrity and the National Open Research Forum.

Professor Declan Devane, Director of Evidence Synthesis Ireland, who will speak about Evidence for informed health choices and the role of ESI.

We also have presentations by fellow librarians: Michelle Dalton will tell us how to avoid “predatory” publishers; Tricia Patton gives us her experience of using the interactive presentation software Mentimeter; and Emma Quinn will speak about ‘Imposter syndrome’.

We have a special reduced cost of €25 for HSLG / LAI members. As we would like to enable as many as possible to attend, HSLG members may apply for the Bernard Barrett Bursary to cover the registration fee, and those outside Dublin may also apply for travel expenses. https://hslg.ie/about/hslg-bursary/

The HSLG are hosting a seminar on February 13 2020, in the Ashling Hotel, Dublin.

 The theme of the Seminar is:

You can’t handle the truth: research integrity and truth in libraries

If you have anything to say about the librarians’ role relating to relevant themes including (but not limited to):

·        Research integrity

·        Promoting evidence

·        Fake news

·        Credibility

·        Imposter syndrome

·        Critical thinking

Presentations can be 10 or 20 minutes.

You are invited to submit:

  • Presentation: (20 mins) Presenters receive a free conference registration
  • Lightening talk (5 mins)
  • Posters (A1 or A0) on aspects of the theme

Irish Copyright Seminar

Irish Copyright Seminar

On Friday 14th December Joe Donnelly of the Judges Library will give a talk on Irish copyright legislation including topics such as how Irish copyright may impact/inform Irish Health Librarians in areas such as Interlibrary loans and database licences etc.

The seminar will take place in the Ashling Hotel, Parkgate Street, Dublin 8, from 2.00 pm – 4:30 pm (including registration and tea/ mince pies) this will include an opportunity for Q&A

The cost will be €10 for HSLG members and €25 + booking fee otherwise.

HSLG AGM 2018 and Network evening with A&SL at RCSI Library

The HSLG 2018 AGM will take place on Wednesday 27 June 2018 in the Bouchier-Hayes Auditorium, RCSI, 26 York Street, Dublin 2 at 16.30.

HSLG members should register to attend here

The AGM is an important event for members and committee members, so please do attend. Additional information about the AGM will be sent out to the HSLG mailing list.

And do remember that registration for the HSLG and A&SL Networking event, beginning on Wed 27th June at 17.30 in RCSI, is separate and you must register here to attend that event.

We will join the library staff on a tour of the library in RCSI’s new education building at 26 York Street. Please note that there are two different time slots, so please register your preference. Tours will start promptly. Latecomers will be brought up to the lecture room.

We will then hear from Kate Kelly, Director of Library Services, RCSI Library, who will provide us with some insights into competencies and professional standards in librarianship.
